What Causes Pain In The Urethra?

Question: I have pain in the urethra... No discharge... Hurts in the tip and penis generally burns. This is happening for 3 months... Urologist prescribed levoflaxin and symptoms almost go after the one week course but then come back a couple of days after. Urine DR and urine culture is negative... Done those 3 times... Done a trans rectal ultrasound.. Normal... Digital rectal exam to extract prostatic fluid was done but there was no fluid which came out after trying for a half hour... Don't know what to do? If there is no infection then why do antibiotics work temporarily? Sex is painful at the worst of times and after Sex burn is much more so just abstaining altogether.... And help is appreciated

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you get pain in perineal region?
2)Do you have other urinary symptoms like burning urination,frequency for urination ?,

Please get your routine Semen test and semen culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefexine along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin and anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Please note Prostatitis takes long time to get cured hence one has to take antibiotics for 4-6 weeks.

Thank you for your most helpful reply. To answer your question, I do have other urinary symptoms when there is pain such as the urge to urinate even when there is nothing there specially after ejaculation... I think it is a great idea to get a semen test and culture done since most of the fluid in that is from the prostate... Coinciding with these symptoms, I also have itchiness near my rectum... Not sure if this is related but both these symptoms started together 3 months ago. I will do the semen culture and report to you as soon as I get the result.... Many thanks again...

Thanks for follow up .Since semen examination is not carried out as a part of investigation for infertility .It is not necessary that you should have abstinence before collecting semen sample for routine microscopic examination and culture.

Hello I went for the semen analysis today and the good news is that they told me in 15 minutes that there was a problem with WBCs and I should get a culture done. So we might have found the infection. The culture sample will be taken tomorrow separately and I should have the result by Monday.... The semen analysis report I will send to you tomorrow as soon as I receive it.... I have not taken any antibiotics in the meantime as I don't want mess with the culture so am just taking pain killers till sample is deposited tomorrow thanks XXXX
