What Causes Pain On Right Side While Coughing Post Injury?
Please get Chest X ray AP view done and apply ointment for pain
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Many patients with similar complaints are seen by me regularly.
Since it is a fall from the stairs, it is difficult to judge any serious injury to the chest that might have occurred. It will help to get an X ray Chest AP View to be certain that there are no fractures any where in the lower ribs on the right side.
Rarely, there might be pneumothorax or collapse of the lung following an injury like falling down the stairs. This is a condition when air from outside enters the chest cavity and compresses the lungs and is a serious concern. This can be ruled out by doing the Chest X ray.
If there is no serious injury to the chest then the pain is due to injury to chest wall and muscles. This can be treated with applying ointment containing muscle relaxant and pain reliever over the painful area. Please avoid taking deep breaths and control your cough and sneezing with medications if required. It should heal in a weeks time.
Wishing you a quick recovery.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
