Question: My dad has terminal bladder cancer as well as terminal cancer of the larynx. He is on Fentanyl 100 patch as well as norco 10 for breakthrough pain. He is having extreme pain radiating in his chest through to his back. (Like a band) What does this indicate? His pain is bad in spite of all these drugs.

Brief Answer:
Buprenorphine 5 mg transdermal patch

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since your dad has terminal bladder and larynx cancer and his having extreme pain in his chest it indicates the tumour has spread to his chest and bones.

I would advise Buprenorphine 5 mg transdermal patch for him.

He can apply one patch to a dry, non-irritated, non-hairy area of his skin on his upper body (such as your chest, upper back, or the outside of his arms). Leave it in place for seven days and then remove it and replace it with a new patch, but apply the replacement patch to a different area of skin on his upper body. Avoid using the area from where he had removed the patch for at least three weeks. Continue to replace the patches once a week, on the same day of the week.
You can discuss about this with your doctor.

If you have any queries you can ask me in follow up.
