What Causes Pain Under The Arm Radiating To The Breast?
Question: Hello this is for dr Sharka I seem to have a pain coming from under my left arm to the breast no shortness of breath feels almost like a spasm or similar I was wondering if you think it could be cardiac related or muscle
Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are not cardiac related.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Welcome back on HCM!
The pain in this region with these features, does not seem to be related to the heart.
Is the pain triggered by arm or shoulder movements? What about deep breathing?
The feeling like a spasm seems to be related to a stretched or inflammated muscle.
For this reason, I would just recommend trying acetaminophen for the pain and try to avoid straining physical exertion.
There is no reason to worry about your heart!
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me again!
Wishing good health,
Dr. Iliri

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
It seems to be just a local muscle inflammation. There is nothing to worry about.
It is not tendinitis, based on the localization of the pain. But the mechanism of the pain is similar: local inflammation of the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, etc.).
Hope to have clarified some of your uncertainties!
I remain at your disposal for any further questions!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri

Yes, I don't think that it is cardiac.
So, there is no need to perform any additional tests, especially considering also your recent performed cardiac tests.
Just try to relax and don't worry about it!

Hi there thank u I do have one more question before I close this questions I do at times feel like when I sit down after doing something or even if u am doing something like I have been active but also feels like an anxiety feeling I do usually get this feeling closer to my menses feels like anxiety and I am pretty sure it is nit cardiac as I had the tests done in July and dec of 2017 all is well wonder if it could be cardiac or lung or perhaps anxiety
Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
It is quite normal to have some palpitations, chest tightness or shortness of breath after physical activity.
It is related to the activation of the sympathetic nerve system (as a normal physiological reaction), leading to increased circulating levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline, thus leading to increased heart rate (even ectopic heart beats) and shortness or breath.
The same physiological reaction happens during anxiety.
So, physical activity and anxiety are closely related, mimicking the same clinical situation.
But, this happens in every healthy person and you have nothing to worry about!
Of course this reaction is more prominent in susceptible and sensitive persons like you! Anyway, it does not indicate any serious medical disorder.
Hope to have clarified some of your uncertainties!
Wishing all the best,
Dr. Iliri
