Question: What causes the fingers to go into a painful cramping episode? At the same time they lock into a partially bent position. This is happening to my mother, who is 81.

Thanks for posting your query.Painful cramping is most likely due to cervical spondylosis.Some time it is due to vitamins deficiency.Give her some pain killar and B complex ,avoid pillow.If pain is not control go for x ray of cervical spine.I hope this answers your query.

A nerve root compression at the cervical vertebral level due to degenerative disc changes in cervical spine- at neck is called cervical spondylosis. It happens primarily due to degenerative changes secondary to age in the cervical spine.
