What Causes Painful Indentation Near Anus?
Question: Small (smaller than a pea in diameter), painful (only when stretching and pressure applied to area) indentation/dimple above anus and below tail bone. Been present for 4 days. The only thing I can think of from an Internet search is that it sort of resembles a pilonidal abscess, but I don't think this is what it is.. I have been applying neosporin, believing it to be a bacterial issue. Really though, not sure what it is...
Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
It seems to be a Pilonidal abscess or sinus.
Detailed Answer:
Hi. By your description it does sounds like a typical Pilonidal sinus or abscess. Do you feel anything coming out of it?
I usually advice my patients to take a course of antibiotics like Amoxycillin and Tinidazole for 5 days and then stop. The area should be kept clean with soap water washes two to three times a day. Nothing else need to be done.
It can be a recurrent problem which Pilonidal sinuses are notorious for. But dont worry if that happens it can be managed.
Take care.

Thank you for your reply. No, no discharge just kind of an empty cavity. Only hurts when pressure is applied. Is this something will naturall go away (if kept sanitary)?
Brief Answer:
It should get covered naturally.
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Nice to hear from you again.
It is a Pilonidal sinus then most likely. You could see a Surgeon who can examine you to be sure.
It will naturally heal itself over a period of time if you keep it clean and dry at all times. It usually happens in hairy people with sitting jobs or drivers, etc who have more hours sitting down.
Any way do not worry and you should be fine.
Take care.
