What Causes Painful Itchy Rashes On Body While Treating Hypothyroidism?

Question: I suffer with hypothyroidism (approx 19yrs) take Thyroxine daily. Dose at present time 50mg daily on empty stomach. Last six weeks an increasing painful itchy rash has exploded on by body worsening as days go by Drs have had me on Coco Scalp and Hydrocortisone Cream to no avail but got increasingly worse Put onto Beta Scalp Lotion, Diprosone, Betnovate. By Christmas Day I am exhausted and from there on a much sinister rash dark red streaks up arms and legs red blotchy welts on hands and wrists saw Dr NYE day she took photos & put me on Prednisone 2 morning 5days & 1 morning 5days but said to come back on 5th January. I'm worried not had anything like this before all symptoms match Thyroiditis on web & Dr also called it that

It is unusual to have a skin rash with thyroiditis.

Thyroiditis mostly causes 'bruising' of the thyroid which could be painful or painless.

It often results in blood test abnormalities reflecting temporarily deranged thyroid function.

I suggest you continue consulting the skin doctor for the rash.

Also regularly see your endocrinologist in-person to keep the thyroid labs in the target range.

Furthermore, the term thyroiditis can be misunderstood by non-experts.

For example, when a person is diagnosed with a permanently underactive thyroid (requiring thyroid medication for life) , the most common reason for that is 'Hashimotos thyroiditis'
This is quite different from the other kind of thyroiditis which is temporary and is often referred to as 'Transient Thyroiditis'

Thank you. I will talk this over with Dr. The lumpy red rash has even increased since finding you online. It is itchy but very painful. I will also google the disease you suggested to try and understand as I haven't ever had anything like this before. The Dr's here were astounded at the sight of it all as hadn't seen it before. I feel dirty through it. Yes, I shower but even that is agony. Not a one of the remedies I am using or taking are having a good effect on the matter.
