What Causes Painful Legs And Leg Cramps After Having Estradiol?

Question: I have been taking estradiol for almost a week now. I have had extreme menstrual bleeding for 2 months and my doctor has tried 3 meds to stop it. I started with 6 mg for 2 days then 4mg for 3 days and have now taken 2 mg for 2 days. 3 days after starting the estradiol I had a mirena put in. The bleeding actually started to slow and stop the very next day. The doctor said continue with the meds till I return which is tomorrow. My question is after the first day of taking the estradiol I have been having aches and pains and lots of leg cramps. Is this normal? I called the pharmacy and they said yes but I did not see it on the list of side effects. I was also having an upset stomach a lot but have noticed it has gotten much better since my dose has gotten lower.
Brief Answer:
Yes. It is due to estradiol.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The aches and pains in the legs and the leg cramps are commonly seen with estradiol. You can do a hot fomentation of the legs and increase your fluid intake to reduce the pain.
The upset stomach is also associated with the hormonal tablets that you are taking. Now that the symptoms have subsided there is no need to worry.

What about heart palpitations? Could they be side effects also?
Brief Answer:
Can be due to anaemia.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Palpitations can be a side effect of the excessive blood loss caused by the excessive bleeding. These can also be caused by the hormonal tablets. Ensure that you are taking adequate fluids orally and an iron rich diet with supplements to combat the iron loss from your body.
