Brief Answer: lymph nodes Detailed Answer: Hi I am Dr Saumya Mittal MD I am going to try to help you with the query. The swelling of the armpit, or axilla, is likely to be due to the swelling of one of the components of the axilla, most likely a lymph node. The pain is likely due to the involvement of a nerve. The best and easiest way to confirm this is via ultrasound I would therefore suggest testing this and CBC, to rule out an infection (most common cause of lymphnode enlargement). feel free to ask a follow up query Dr Mittal
