Painful lump in the back of head -Under Investigation.

Detailed Answer:
Provisional Diagnosis-Painful lump in the back of head -Under Investigation.
Hi,Dear,Good Evening .Thanks for your query.
I studied your query in details and understood your health concerns.
Your main concern is lately discovered golf ball size lump on back of your head.
Your concern is why lump has occurred when no injury? and Why that lump is painful?
I would need few important facts as follows before the final diagnosis is done-
How did you come across the lump in the last week? Was it during combing?or because of inbuilt pain in the lump?
Do you have any fever / body ache?
At this age In my opinion it is mostly a benign / non cancer tumor.Clinical possibilties would be ruled out before final diagnosis is made.
I would advise few investigations as follows-
The pain in the lump indicates recent infective process in the lump itself or may be due to the recent growth in tumor size -stretching the tissue around, thus causing pain in it.
I would suggest you following treatment plan -
Consult ER Surgeon and under his guidance get following work out-
Get Skull Xray done.
Get the Complete Blood Tests/FBS /PPS or Basal Metabolic panel.
Tab-Antibiotic-like Ofloxacin-200 mgm 1 x 2 times a day x 5 days.
Tab-Voltaren-400 mgm -1 x 2 times a day x 5 days.
Awaiting your above information soon.
Welcome for any further query to HCM in this regard.
Feel free to ask any query in this regard and I would love to help you out.
Wishing you fast recovery.

Detailed Answer:
Provisional Diagnosis-Painful Sebaceous Cyst on back of the Head- U/I-(Under Investigation)

Hi,Dear,Good Morning from XXXXXXX
Thanks for the update.Though the information is incomplete I would help you out of this query with my expertise and experience.
I reviewed your updates in reference to your query.
Whether The ball size lump is in the center of the back or on the side of the back?
Though I don't have the advantage of more information regarding the tumor,
-By My clinical Impression the lump is -Sebaceous Cyst with mild infection due to following reasons-
Its sore-indicating it has lately infected by handling/ combing.
Its size is of golf ball size, which indicates that It has grown over time since long time without any notice to you.
There is no complaint of any associated lump nearby in the back of neck or sides of the neck.
If its movable and if its Soft, squishy, then its Sebaceous Cyst with mild infection.
I would advise you to go to ER Surgeon who would treat it by -Surgical Excision and Biopsy for the clinical interests and for to resolve further plan of treatment.
-For your age to investigation for Cancer and to ruling out its risk, is the only clinical demand,if its Hard and fixed lump.
If its hard I would suggest FNAC Biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. There are many possibilities medically and to rule out these possibilities is doctor's job,if the clinical findings demand it and if it's need is there.
In brief Summary-
Painful lump on the back of your head is mostly -a Sebaceous Cyst with mild infection by combing trauma. And is not a Cancer tumor unless proved by FNAC Biopsy ,which would be decided by your ER Surgeon or family doctor.
If you treat with suggested drugs under cover from your Family Doctor, infection would reduce.
After reduction of the infection, for cosmetic reasons, this tumor could be removed by Surgical Excision.
IF tumor is hard and fixed locally, I would suggest to do FNAC Biopsy.
HPR(Histo-Pathological-Biopsy) after biopsy would decide further treatment, which would be decided by your ER Surgeon and family doctor.
This is what,I could be plan with in the limits of whatever limited information regarding your golf size lump is given from you.
Hope these suggestions would help you to plan your treatment with your Surgeon and family doctor.
Hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
