Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: Hi,

Need help please. I have acute ankle pain and swelling for over 2 weeks now. It started in the big toe but now the ankle is most affected. Any pain killers like ibrufen or voveron are not working. The pain gets extreme in the evenings/night severely impacting my mobility.

My uric acid is 7.4, albumin of 2400, sugar is OK. I have cholesterol, Iron and Vit D deficiency. Kidney ultrasound was ok. Medicines I am currently taking include Febuget 40, Indocap SR, Rozawel 10 and Nexpro.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

From this descriptions, it seems like you're having Gouty arthritis.

Please try to avoid non-vegetarian food (including the gravies). Avoid alcohol, smoking, eating avocado. Do drink 3 litres of water daily.

Please discuss with your doctor regarding starting Tablet Allopurinol 100mg twice a day for a month and stopping Febuget.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Brief Answer:
Ice, elevation, Ibuprofen

You can take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day after meals and Tablet Rabeprazole twice a day before meals for 5 days. Apply cool packs, keep limb elevated. This will help drastically in reducing pain.
