Question: My 27 year old son is complaining about painful urination and at one point, blood in his urine. Could it be a bladder infection or should he see a specialist to look at his prostate? He drinks lots of water and has tried drinking cranberry juice

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Acute UTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 27 years old son has painful urination with hematuria

This could be mostly due to Acute UTI especially Cystitis.

Please get his routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please give him broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure he drinks more water .To keep his urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
