Question: Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...
Last night I took a new overthe counter pill for insomnia. It is called Lunar Sleep (all natural sleep aid) It contains mg GABA, 5-htp, Melatonin. In less than an hour I felt pain, tingling and numbness in my left arm and fingers, I could not find relief. Heat seemed to alleviate it. I put on gloves and rub some oitment on my arm and hands, which seemed to help. I was afraid of a heart attack. In spite of this discomfort I did sleep, but woke up this morning with the same symptoms, but much milder. Can you comment? Before the sleeping pill (like an hour before) I had taken 1 Aleve for general body pain.

Brief Answer:
Pain does not looks to be of cardiac origin

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting
It is uncommon to have side effect with melatonin which you had.The usual side effect are stomach cramps, daytime sleepines and headache. You may discontinue sleep lunar and switch over to clonazepam drug under medical guidance.
I hope you are medically fit as far as blood pressure and diabetes is concerned? Please share it in the follow up query along with your age and gender. The pain of cardiac origin is sharp, severe ,heaviness in chest with sweating. Your pain does not looks to be of cardiac origin .
Hope this helps
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query

Thank you so much Dr. Chugh. Today my pain is almost gone, but I still have a sensitivity in my left hand. Could this be something like Fibromyalgia? I do get pains in different parts of my body on occassion, but nothing as bad as what I got last night on my left arm.

What else could cause this type of pain?

Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
May get blood test for fibromyalgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It’s good to see you again
I am happy that your pain has reduced. As far as pain in different part of body is concern you may get following test done to rule out anything hidden like serum uric acid and RA factor. Do you smoke and take alcohol?
For the sensitivity part you may have vitamin B12, B6 along with pain killer for few days more.
Hope this information suffices.
Take care and wish you good health
