What Causes Passing Of Green Stools In Infants?
Question: my 5month old baby's poop is a light green clumpy water poop with white things in them is that normal?

Dear Ms
Green stools in baby just implies quick transit time of food in Intestine causing the bile to excreted unaltered in stools giving the stool the color of bile that is green. The stools are usuallly yellow if the food has adequate time to be in Intestine and biLe getting converted into stercobilin which is yellow in color.
Presence of green stools is nothing serious and could be because of
1. Baby feed on formula feeds
2. Not giving adequate hind milk to baby (iit usually occurs if the breast is not adequately emptied before shifting to other breast )
3. Normal variation which could occasionally be seen.
If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern
1 Baby accepting feeds well
2. No redness in skin surrounding anus
3. Baby sleeps adequately after feeds
I would suggest to empty one breast completely before switching the breast. Also do witheld formula feeds for couple of days, which will normalise color of stools.
