What Causes Passing Of Loose Stools Along With Lower Abdominal Pain?
Question: I have been having very soft stools for the past week or so and they have been starting to smell quite fruity - is this anything I should be concerned about? Plus when I need to pass stool I get quite a lot of pain in my lower abdomen and I need to get to a toilet quickly to relieve the pain and pressure.
Last week I was admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis as there was severe pain in my lower right abdominal area but it settled within a few days. My CRP however was very high at 70 and I am worried that this indicates that something else is going on inside of me. I am constantly tired and have no motivation and recently my appetite has decreased and I am starting to loose weight as well. Do you have any idea what might be wrong with me?

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Possibly you are having intestinal infection presumably protozoal infection like giardia.
Prominent early symptoms of giardiasis include diarrhea/soft frequent motions , abdominal pain,smelly stools. & (in some instances) weight loss occur.
Stool (fresh specimen) for routine examination will help in diagnosis.
Standard treatment for giardiasis is Tinidazole (2 g once by mouth) .
Other possibilities are inflammatory bowel disease (in view of raised CRP level).
Unexplained diarrhea and loose/very soft stool ,weight loss also needs serological test(ELISA) for HIV infection ,if at all you have any risk factor.However it is the last possibility.
