Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
You have been experiencing blood in your semen after ejaculation. This is called hematospermia. The most common cause of the blood in the semen is prior trauma to the urological tract either from instrumentation like catheterization or from injury. The next common cause is calculi in the prostate that may cause irritation to the prostate and cause bleeding. A very small number of patient will have prostate cancer but that is a rare presenting symptom for prostate cancer.
In my patients with hematospermia I would recheck your PSA and check your prostate for infection. If infected you may need a 4-6 week course of antibiotics like levaquin. If everything is otherwise normal then I would no be concerned with the blood in the sperm and stop worrying. This is one time where the treatment or the tests to define the cause of a condition maybe worse than the disease.
In summary
1. hematospermia common
2. Prostate calculi most common cause and benign
3. Prostate cancer very rare
4. Trauma from instrumentation or injury
5. If prostate infection then a 4-6 week course of antibiotics
6. Avoid invasive procedures as they may cause more injury
