What Causes Periods Twice A Month Along With Bloating And Frequent Urination?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: I turned 40 in July and have noticed that I am getting my period every 2 weeks. I also feel very hot and sweaty at times as well as having a bloated feeling and the need to urinate frequently. I am terrified of cancer even though it does not run in my family. I do drink quite a lot of Diet Dr. Pepper and have recently lost my job and therefore do not have health insurance.

Brief Answer:
Menopause and cystitis workup

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The irregular or changed frequency in menses along with hot flashes usually are associated with menopause. The mean age is around 50 years, so its a bit premature for menopause at your age. Nevertheless , menopause can occur prematurely, especially if a history of smoking is there. Stress can also be a factor in irregularity of menstrual cycle. At least 3 months of amenorrhea along with elevated FSH and LH are needed to diagnose menopause. Hormone replacement therapy can be considered if its Menopause.

The frequent urination could be cystitis or UTI. Get a urine R/E done to find out.

Cancer can occur in a variety of places in the body. A physical exam can rule out the burden of going through un necessary investigation and target the minimum required labs. Blood counts and metabolic profile including fasting blood sugar, liver and renal function tests can be done to assess your overall condition.

Please consult your doctor before deciding on any further course of action.

wishing you best of health
