What Causes Persistent And Recurring Pain After Testicular Biopsy?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hello, I had undergone testicular biopsy (right testis) in Aug, 2014. Initially the doctor gave me antibiotic and pain killer tablets for 5 days. The pain subsided in 3 weeks. After 2 more weeks, the pain came back. When I visited the same doctor, I was again given pain killer and antibiotics for 5 days. The pain appeared to have come down. But after 3 more weeks, the pain came back again - I can feel it on the back side (just to the right of backbone above the butt). On visiting another doctor, I was given antibiotics (15 days) and pain killer (5 days and then as required). The pain subsided but I could feel it very slightly. Unfortunately, I am experiencing pain off late again (not as much as earlier though). I can feel it when I rise from a chair, try to fold legs etc. It is interfering with my daily activities. Please advise how I can get rid of this forever.

Brief Answer:
Pain can persist after a biopsy. Get Ultrasound done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is possible that mild pain might be there following a testicular biopsy but it should not be so much to interfere with your daily activities. Therefore, I suggest you see a Urologist and possibly get a Scrotal ultrasound done to see whether there is a hematoma or something leading to testicular or spermatic cord infection.

If infection is still a possibility then a Urine and Semen culture should be undertaken and antibiotics should be given only according to the culture report if it picks up any bacteria. The report will also mention what antibiotics are sensitive and then your Doctor can decide what to start and they should be taken for at least two weeks.

So, do not worry and see a Urologist and let me know what he says as he will know better by examining you.
I will look forward to hearing from you.

Take care,
