
What Causes Persistent Black Mark Under The Right Index Nail?

Question: I have a black mark which appears to be under my right index nail. It has been there for at least weeks if not a couple of months.

No specific injuries that i can remember but I work with heavy weights, so hitting get bumped around by the weights, especially on my right hand which is my dominant hand, is not uncommon.

This seems like a subungual haematoma, may be due to unnoticed trauma. A subungual haematoma is self resolving and gradually moves outwards towards the fee edge of the nail before disappearing.
