What Causes Persistent Cough And Involuntary Loud Moaning At Night?
Question: I have had a cough for about two weeks, which is annoying, but even more strange is that I have started loudly moaning in the night and waking myself and my partner up. What's going on? I have been taking nighttime cough medicine. Not sure if that could have any effect?
Brief Answer:
Obstructive Sleep Apnea

It is possible you are suffering from some sort of Apnea. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is often responsible for the symptoms you are describing. Does your husband hear you snore and or act as if you are catching your breath during sleep? Do you feel week, tired and or not well rested throughout the early part of the day? The moaning can be a result of blocked airflow; presenting in a way which alters your trachea's representation of vocal sounds. As such to diagnose OSA officially, you must obtain a polysomnogram/sleep study with a physicians aid. I hope this advice has helped
Warm Regards.

Thanks for your response. My fiancé had never heard me snore or make any noises really until the last two nights. All of the sudden I've been making these "whimpering" noises and he said I even yelled out last night. Any chance the nighttime cough medicine could cause this?
Brief Answer:
Medication Side Effects
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
That is certainly a possibility. You may be having vivid or altered normal dreaming patterns because of change in medications (i.e. nighttime cough medication). Sometimes, new medications truly give us crazy dreams for the first few days of use, and thus you could just be calling out as you rest.
Then again it could be sleep apnea, if you are suffering more symptoms throughout the day of less rest.
In regards to the cough, I would suggest hydration; and perhaps a consult with a physician to get examined clinically to see if you potentially have bronchitis or asthma component. If so inhalers truly can help. I hope these words have helped.
Feel free to ask if there's any further queries
Best Wishes
