What Causes Persistent Crackling Sounds In The Ear Despite Completing A Course Of Clindamycin Drops For Outer Ear Infection?
Noise in ear after completing ear drops
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can think of two possibilities for the continuation of the ear sound:
1. Although you have finished treatment for the outer ear infection, it is possible there still remains some fluid or wax and debris in the ear canal that is causing the sound.
2. Often times when a patient has an external ear infection(in the ear canal, outside of the ear drum)
it is not unusual for there to be a middle ear infection(inside of the ear drum) as well.
The fluid inside the ear drum may cause the sound.
The doctor may not notice the middle ear infection because it is blocked from view by the infection in the ear canal.
It can take a while(days to weeks) for the fluid to dry up. I suggest waiting three to four weeks and if you still have the cracking sound or if there is pain or difficulty hearing then return to your physician.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
