What Causes Persistent Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Abdominal Tuberculosis?

Question: Hi Doctor,
My son is 13 year old, he was diagnosed as abdominal TB( Granulommatous Inflammation possibility of Kochs) and taking Forcox for the last 5 weeks.
Still Dysentery( now 6-7 times in a day) not stopped and observed that apatite is better, no fever now.
No change in weight.
My question is how long Dysentery will continue and is this medicine is sufficent.

Brief Answer:
Give curd or yogurt
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Dysentery means bloody stool. Please confirm if the stool is blood stained. Else you are talking about diarrhea or simply loose stool. Please confirm.
Forecox needs to be continued. Forecox is known to give rise to diarrhea in some individuals. It is not something to worry about. Giving curd or yogurt should help since they contain beneficial bacteria (which get otherwise eliminated by the antibiotics and thereby lead to diarrhea).

Yes Doctor some times stool with blood stains but not every time. His general condition is improving
It's not loose motion. It's like semi solid.
Please suggest if any food restrictions.

Brief Answer:
Fiber foods need to be increased
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I need to enquire about the stool consistency. If it is hard (constipation), the blood stains could be due to hemorrhoids. In that case the water and fiber intake would need to be maximized. If on the other hand, the stool is soft, you would need to get the stool tested for routine microscopy.
Avoid intake of rich food and red meat. Increase fiber rich foods.
Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Course of antibiotic might need to be administered.
Detailed Answer:
A stool microscopy needs to be done. Treatment with a course of antibiotics is likely to be required. Please discuss with your treating physician.
Usually the loose motions gradually subside. But a bacterial infection might be complicating the matters. Let us wait till the completion of the course of antibiotics and see if that makes a difference.
