What Causes Persistent Dry Cough?
Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife is suffering from dry cough since September 2015 i.e. from last 3 to 4 months
We have tried over the counter cough syrups like Gryllinctus, Benadryl etc but these medications helped partially for some time but it is going on recursively.
Kindly suggest some remedies and what should we do in such circumstances.

First get done chest x ray and PFT.

I can understand your concern.
Your wife is having chronic cough.
And she is partially improving with over the counter drugs.
So possibility of either lung infection ( tuberculosis or pneumonia) or cough variant asthma is more.
So better to take her to pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of asthma.
She may need antibiotics or antitubercular drugs or inhaled treatment according to the diagnosis.
So better to first diagnose her and then start appropriate treatment.

1. Has she undergone chest x ray?
2. Has she undergone PFT?

Thanks a lot for quick response doctor.
Though she has not undergone chest x-ray or PFT in recent time however in 2012 she had undergone chest x-ray where Bronchitis was detected.
I stay in XXXXXXX so kindly suggest and guide us for the subsequent steps.
