What Causes Persistent Elbow Pain?

Posted on Thu, 27 Apr 2017
Question: Hi, I have been dealing with wrist and elbow pain for about 4 months. I have seen numerous doctors and undergone numerous tests, xrays and MRI's. I took a emg and nerve conduction test both came back negative for entrapment. I feel as though this is nerve issue. Are there any other test for nerve entrapment and damage?

Brief Answer:
Nerve issue less likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Nerve entrapment is best diagnosed by NCV and EMG. Since both the tests are negative this can be due to a mild nerve irritation. if it is associated with tingling and numbness then a nerve related issue is more likely. Only pain can be related to muscle spasm or a minor sprain in the area. Taking methylcobalamin supplements and medicines like pregabalin can help in decresing the nerve related pain. You need to avoid all painful activities and try an oral muscle relaxant and see if it helps. Using an elastic elbow brace or band will also help in providing an extra support to the area.
I hope this answers your query.
