What Causes Persistent Fever Despite Taking Medication?

Question: Hello Doctor , my 4.5 years old son has 101.9 degree fever from past 11 hours , I had intially given him meftal p - 5ml it reduced and after 3 hours he got back the fever and then I gave him calpol 250 - 5 ml later after 4 hours gave him neomol 170 suppository- the capsule got broken into two pieces so I just gave him one broken large piece via his rectum . It's almost two hours his fever is still the same . Please help .can I give him meftal p again with the neomol 170 suppository ?

Dysentery means bloody stool. Is that the case?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. 5ml of Meftal P (100mg/5ml) is right for your child. If you are giving 50mg/ml the dose should be 10ml. However, meftal p can lead to gastric irritation and that could lead to his stomach hurting. Try giving Lanzol junior (lansoprazole) once daily before meal for the time being. Also give other medicines in full stomach, if possible.

Diarrhea is different from dysentery. Dysentery means blood stained stool. If that is the case, you should visit a doctor and get antibiotics prescribed. If not, ORS (oral rehydration solution) is essential.
