What Causes Persistent Headache?
Question: Hello
My husband is 53 and for the past month has had a headache that starts in the frontal area of the head and works its way to the top. These have been severe at times. CT scan and MRI have both come back normal as well as blood work. He is on a Nortriptyline regiment, starting the 2nd week, and was also on Prednisone. On the prednisone, the headaches seemed to diminish. Any ideas would be appreciated. XXXXXXX

Well if CT and MRI brain is normal then it means there is no structural . There are certain conditions where the blood supply to the head fluctuates ( increases and decreases ) . Such conditions are called Vascular Headaches.
If you are getting good relief from the present medication then you can continue it. But if not satisfied you can try Tab Sibelium for 2-3 months.
Also make sure you get good sound sleep, don't fast or delay having food.
Also get your vision tested because vision problem also causes frontal headaches.

Thank you for your response. He wakes up with a headache and it seems to continue throughout the day. This has become the norm even with the current medication regiment.

Is his sleep disturbed due to any reason ?
A disturbed sleep can cause headache on getting up. If he sleeps peacefully but still getting headache then better he start the medicine advised previously.

He has NEVER had headaches like this before. When it first started, he was asleep and suddenly woke up in excruciating pain. His sleep varies from time to time. He wakes up with one and it lasts all day long.
