What Causes Persistent Heart Burn Along With Nausea?

Question: My wife has mild to sever heart burn for many years and has been taking Omeprazole 40mg. She now has a feeling of nausea almost every day along with the heartburn and the doctor took her off Omeprazole and put her on 20mg of Rabeprazole. This new conditions has been going on now for over 2 months and she has lost 12lbs in 6 weeks. She is afraid to eat anything due primarily to the Nausea feeling she is having. She recently had a EGD test done on 3/27/15 that showed no serious problems. After this procedure she was told to take one 20mg pill of Rabeprazole twice a day. It is now 5 days using the Rabveprazole twice a day and their appears to be no improvement. She keeps telling me something is wrong and the test are not giving us any hope as to what else could be wrong. Could this be a possible Goal Bladder problem? Please advise if something else could cause these serious problems. Thank You

Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your wife carefully and understood your concerns.

1. Her symptoms are possibly indicating gallbladder issues. Abdominal ultrasound is needed to rule it out.

2. With regards to rabeprazole effect, it will take a couple of weeks to see improvement. Unfortunately, cannot see right away.

3. You are saying that she had upper endoscopy. Can you please provide the reports? Can you also refer the diagnosis her doctor reported to you?

4. From what you are telling, losing weight needs to further evaluate. Pancreas function test and abdominal ultrasound are needed for further evaluations. Depending on the results, Ct-scan abdomen is also to be considered.

A summary of my wife's Esophagogastroduodenoscopy test is as follows
1.Normal esophagus. Four biopsies taken.
2.Normal GE junction
3.Mild erosive gastritis was found in the antrum(535.40). Four biopsies taken.
4.Normal duodenum

The following is the medical history of my wife. 1995 Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) University of XXXXXXX 2005 Aortic Valve replacement (Pig Valve) Atlantic City Hospital Mainland Division
Her Medications Rabeprazole 20mg twice a day, Metoprolol Succ ER 50mg, Vytorin 10-20mg, Ramipril 10mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg, Ecotrin Aspirin 81mg

Mild erosive gastritis noted is due to Ecotrin Aspirin use.

I still think that she needs to run abdominal ultrasound and get further tests to rule out:
- gallbladder
- pancreas

problems.
