What Causes Persistent Infection In Kidney?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: My daughter,12, was taken to the ER 2 weeks ago running 105 fever. She had abdomen and lower back pain....was diagnosed with UTI and kidney infection. She was given IV antibiotics in the hospital and a prescription of them to take for 10 days. She finished the antibiotics middle of last week. She says her back still hurts, and I just took her temperature... 96. I think I need to call her doctor tomorrow. Could she still be having kidney issues...is the low temp a major concern?

Brief Answer: Unlikely to be due to persistent infection Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Ms, Persistent infection in kidney is unlikely to present as Hypothermia in 12 year old girl. Hypothermia is more likely an indicator for persistent fever in a neonate and elderly. If her appetite is normal, absence of vomiting and no Urinary symptoms then there is no cause for concern. Single isolated Hypothermia is not cause for concern. I would suggest you the following 1. Maintain her hydration: Ensure good intake of water. It would be useful if you could get back to me with her investigations including Urine examination report and Ultrasound report. I rarely encounter Children in 12 years of age presenting with hyopthermia as sign of persistent infection. Also do get Urine examination and Ultrasound done on follow up with your doctor.
