Question: Hei!

I have been getting this joint pain for a long time now.
It started with both of my thumb fingers and I went to see an orthopedist, he diagnosed me with trigger fingers. He suspected arthritis and ran some tests but they came back negative.
Now It is getting worst, my sciatica is hurting also, from the pelvis to my ankle where I feel a lot of pain in my heel bone. I have pain in almost every joint in my body in addition to weakness in my grip and endurance while standing up.

Brief Answer:
Is it muscle disease or joint pain

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

thank you for writing on health care magic

Well, your symptoms as such are not fitting in with any sort of arthritis. Sciatica and trigger finger are more of soft tissue symptoms..But you have difficulty in grip and not able to stand up goes more in favor of muscle disease. I would like to know a few more details before guiding you further:

1. Do you have difficulty in standing up from your toilet seat?

2. ANy difficulty in reaching for objects above your head?

3. Did they check your CPK levels??

4. Any other history of oral ulcers/hair fall???

Do let me know these queries..Would guide you further from here

Thank you for your answer.

1-It is no more difficult than standing up from a chair, where I need some support with my hand.

2-No difficulty in reaching high objects. I do feel extreme numbness and pain when I write on the blackboard for more than 20 minutes.

3-I don't think so, they only checked creatinine and they found 96 μmol/L.

4-I have sometimes inflammations in my mouth but no Ulcers. I have a lot of hair loss though.

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Is it myositis

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Sorry for the late reply

Had a long day and I just got in

Well the symptoms you are telling go more in favor of muscle inflammation than the joint. I am not sure if you were examined properly, But it would be worth while to ask your GP to check it once more. If significant, get your muscle enzymes tested. That would give us a fair clue on what exactly is happening with your thigh muscles.

I really dont think it is the arthritis, but definitely a muscle problem

DO let me know for more queries

Sorry for late reply

Dear Dr Naval,

Thank you for your answer.

So what kind of tests should I ask my GP for?

Sincerely,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Further Tests

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Well firstly, he should examine the power in all your muscles. That would give him a fair clue on where exactly the problem lies

2. Get CPK, LDH, Aldolase, SGOT and SGPT done

3. Last would be to get an EMG done. I dont think he can order that without a neurologist consultation.

But Clinical examination and muscle enzymes do give us a good clue on what we are dealing with

I hope the information was useful

Do let me know for more queries
