What Causes Persistent Loose Stool In A Child?
Observe for signs of dehydration
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Most of the time the loose motion in this age occur due to some viral infection.
The main aim of management is to give adequate amount of fluid to prevent dehydration.
In diarrhea there is loss of absorptive inner layer of epithelium in intestine.
It usually take 5-7 days for this epithelium to regrow and till that time loose motion can continue even after all efforts.
ORS should be given to prevent dehydration.Zinc syrup and probiotic helps in early recovery from loose stool.
So I won't get worried if baby is active/playful,accepting feeds well, there is no vomiting or abdominal distension and passing urine normally.
If you notice any abnormality suggestive of dehydration consult your pediatrician immediately.
I hope this helps.
Please do ask if you have any more query.
Wish your baby speedy recovery.
