What Causes Persistent Mucus Discharge From Nose?

Question: Hello,
I have frequent thin whit mucus discharge from right side nasal only and this nasal remain dry and choke also. I have been in this condition frequently since 10 years.
I took medicine,
Droxyl 500 - 10 tab
Dexona - 15

These medicines has given me relief in nasal blockage. Should I continue to take this medicine and for how long duration please.

I have PNS scan also. How I can upload that scan here ? Please advice.

Hi ,
Thanks for query.

I have read your query & understand your concerns.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are having chronic nasal obstruction with infection .

If I am your treating doctors , I would advice
Use saline nasal spray or rinse twice daily ,
Antihistamine tablet at night &
Continue droxyl tablet for 10 day .

Stop taking Dexona , it has more side effects .

If anatomical nasal obstruction present , you will need to continue saline nasal rinse & antihistamine tablet till surgical procedure done.

You can take pictures of CT scan PNS report & upload in this forum in investigation section or write interpretation here .

I have attached my CT-Scan and report of PNS. Doctor has advised to take L DIO-1-m after previous mentioned medicine gets finished for one month.

Could you suggest L - DIO-1-m Medicine has drowsiness effect or not ? if it has then please suggest another medicine which doesn't have drowsiness effect.

I had been smoking, average 4 cigarate for last 7 yrs and Now have quit smoking since last one month.

Can I take apple cider vinegar ? I feel it helps to clear mucus from my right side nasal. I am doing jal-neti also to clear the congestion. Dose Appler vinegar has nasal dryness effect ?

Based on PNS report should I go for Septoplasty ?

Thanks for follow up query.

I have read your query & seen your pictures.

After reading your CT scan , it appears that you having DNS to left with inferior turbinate hypertrophy on right & middle turbinate concha bullosa on right ( air filled). You will require septoplasty with turbinate reduction inferior as well as middle to improve ventilation system in nose.

I would advice , use L dio 1 m tablet at night it has little or no drownsiness .

Apple cider vinegar will improve sinus & throat problem . Nose dryness is because of thick secreation in nose.

Continue neti wash twice daily .

Since I have Quit cigarate and will follow medicine and improve physical activity, then will it help to get the nasal congestion and mucus production reduction ?

My weight is 112 kg and height 5'8.

I mean to ask form this point can we wait to see if lifestyle change and with medicine help, can we avoid surgery ?

I should stop consuming apple cider vinegar.. right ?

Can I take Himalaya's Septilin medicine whenever require for short time of duration ?

Yes , you can take septillin whenever required. It will boast your immunity.

Best anti allergy medicine with no drownsiness is combination steroid + antihistamine nasal spray like duonase nasal spray . It has less side effects since it is used locally in nose .
In tablet form you can use tablet Allergra M at night with very little drowsiness .

This medications require prescription from your doctor.

You can use apple cider vinegar less frequently . Salt water gargle & saline nasal wash will give you much better results .
