What Causes Persistent Pain And Weakness In Ankle After Ankle Sprain?
Question: 14 years ago i sprained my ankle. over the years the pain and weakness has gotten progressively worse. ive had my ankle give out while walking down the stairs which sent me to emergancy. they told me to see my family doctor. i went to see her and she said "youll never be able to afford physical therapy so youll have to deal with it". my calf muscles have become noticeably smaller than my left leg. recently i found my hip and knee have been in pain and cramp up. i was told by emergancy doctor that my ligaments are destroyed. i did some google searching and saw that the possibility of surgery would have fixed my problem years ago. i do small excerise at home to try and strengthen my ankle but it hasnt seemed to do anything. any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems that you have unstable ankle due to ligament injury. As your injury is old and you are not get any relief, I suggest you to get a MRI of ankle done to see the severity of tear causing ankle instability. Depending upon the findings further management can be planned.
Hope this helps you.
