What Causes Persistent Pain In Thumbs?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: Both of my thumbs ache. At first I could relieve the pain by massaging my forearms. Therapist thought it was tendons that were tight. I work out a lot both cardio and weights. Not overweight, overall good health

Brief Answer:
Could be tendonitis or basal thumb arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

It could be tendonitis or basal thumb arthritis. I suggest you to get x-ray of both thumb done to see any arthritic changes. You can share the report with me or with your orthopaedician.
Meanwhile give rest to your thumb.
Use heat and cold to manage pain. Both heat and cold can relieve pain in your joint. Heat also relieves stiffness and cold can relieve muscle spasms.
Apply over-the-counter pain creams. Creams and gels available at the drugstore may provide temporary relief from pain.
Take diet rich in calcium, vitamin d3 and minerals.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care
