Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX
Thanks for the query under Health Care Magic platform.
I have read your query & understand your concern.
Usually cough that is with miner cold/ infection.. when resistance of person is good is controlled within 2 weeks. The fact that it's there since 2 weeks inspite of over the counter medicines itself indicates need to get investigated to find it's basic cause & start specific treatment with a doctor's advise.
* Cough that is long lasting can be from following causes -
- Allergy/ Infection/ associated asthma , bronchitis or Gastroesophageal reflux disease( where it is associated with complaints of heart burn & digestive problems). or post nasal drip ( associated with sinusitis )
* In your case as you mention about phlegm being taken out through out day... you seem to have any of other causes with super imposed infection. which has settled in lower respiratory tract ( lungs) .. causing bronchitis .. which causes you lot of coughing & pain in back
* I would suggest you to-
- Get consultation of your family physician first . He will examine you thoroughly & then advise for investigations like- blood( Hb%/ total and differential blood cell counts/ sputum examination & culture as per need/ X ray chest.
_ He would then start with suitable antibiotic along with cough syrup & medicines to manage other associated conditions like Anti allergic/ asthma medicines/ medicines to control heart burn or sinusitis.
In case he feels necessary he may send to a chest physician/ ENT specialist/ gastroenterologist for specific management.
* Self care-
_ Avoid exposure to known allergies ( if Any ) / cold drink or weather/ Avoid sour , spicy, fried food.
- Take fresh, warm ,easy to digest & nourishing food
- Drink plenty of warm water/Do saline gargles.
- Avoid physical or psychological stress.
- Take medicine regularly.
* this way investigations & a doctor's advise would help to spot exact causative factor. . & specific treatment offered by doctor & self care would take you out of the distressing cough.
Hope the answer was both informative & useful to you. Any follow up query would be welcome.
Take care. Thanks.
