What Causes Persistent Twitching In Arm And Hand With History Of Colon Cancer?

Posted on Sat, 6 Dec 2014
Question: I am one year cancer free, as I have been told, from stage 2 colon cancer. It was carcinoid of the appendix. I had several years of sandostatin injections prior and have had no treatments since. My chromogranin A levels are increasing, but still acceptable. At last check in the 40's. I have had some very concerning issues of late. I was at the emergency room on Sunday for an allergic reaction to something, but it is unknown what it is and I have had no changes to my intake or environment. I had symptoms for 2 days. My face was severely swollen and eyes swollen shut. The swelling would get worse if I laid down. I was told it was Angiodema and was prescribed prednisone and loratadine. My face is still puffy, but swelling is markedly better. My face is dry, red and has sores all over now. Also, my left arm and hand has been tingly and is now going numb. The other problem is that there is a persistant twitching in my left thumb. Finally, I have had recurring skin ulcers on my scalp that come and go. I'm not sure what is going on or to which specialist I should go.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

I can appreciate that you're dealing with some very concerning symptoms. Regarding which specialist I think you should consider seeing any new knowledge just to see if there is something in your immune system which is hyperactive or inflamed. This might explain why you have developed symptoms which you described.

if the immunologist is not impressed with any ongoing immune process it might be reasonable to visit again with the oncologist to see if you need any kind of scan such as a CT scan or octreotide scan to see if the carcinoid may have returned.

I would also carefully review your diet history to see if there is something you might have consumed recently which touched off the mostrecent reaction.

Thanks again for sending your question.
