Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query. I do understand your apprehension; I will try my best to help you with this problem.
The phlegm and the soreness in the throat are because of the inflammation of the tissues due to instrumentation in the throat, while performing the procedure. Do not worry! This is absolutely normal and one of the commonest problems following the cauterization or banding of the vessels in the esophagus. It is very unlikely for the banding to get loosened or for the cauterized area to re-bleed as the wound area is much lower down in the esophagus.
My suggestion to you is to drink plenty of warm water and do steam inhalation. Steam inhalation reduces the inflammation of the throat and the vocal cords, thus reducing the episodes of cough. While, warm water reduces the consistency of phlegm and expels it out from the respiratory tract.
Avoid coffee/tea and staying in front of the air conditioner or fan.
With the above measures you will be alright. Revert back to me if you have any follow-up queries.
