It is a part of nature's preventive or defence mechanism. Your baby must have exposed to unfavourable situations both physical and mental, against which the body is reacting by producing phlegm. It is a healing phase of the event. There are innumerable methods inside the body to take this phlegm from inside the lungs, bronchiolar and bronchial tubes to outside.
