Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: I am positive of HSV-1, never had like really big symptoms on my mouth or genital areas, so I dont even know If i have ever had a breakout. No itching, no pain (sometimes I do feel veryyy light pain in my testicles) Lately I got a pimple in my genital area that is been couple weeks and hasnt gone off... Im wondering if I should get worried, should I seek medical attention, its not really bothering or itching me a lot tho ... should I get any anti-viral ? if so, what kind and how many times a day and stufff ?

Brief Answer:
Furuncle

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query. I have also looked at the Image

This does'nt look like a herpetic lesion to me. I would keep a possibility of a furuncle.

I would suggest a course of an oral antibiotic e.g either cephalexin 500 mg (keflex) thrice daily for week OR Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for a week. Topically you can apply either Neosporin or Mupirocin ointment, twice daily.

Regards

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for answering, Do I need a prescription for this antibiotic ? (kerflex ) - I live in USA, if not what do I ask for when I go to the pharmacy ? If yes, is there anyways I can get a prescription to the pharmacy ? Samy question is for the other lubricant ? - Can I just buy it or get a prescription.

And the most important question is, do I need to be worried a LOT ? do I have to go to the doctor or it should go away with the given medicine ?

Thanks in advance

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes. A prescription would be required for oral antibiotics. I would suggest you to visit your local practitioner for a prescription oral antibiotic.

Neosporin is available OTC, same with Mupirocin. You don't require a prescription for these.

It should resolve on these medications within a week.
