What Causes Pink Patch Of Skin On Foreskin?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: I've had this pink patch of skin on my foreskin for 2 months. I noticed it after rough masturbation one night. Two weeks after i noticed it, my dermatologist said it was irritation and prescribed westcort. I used it for one week and the redness went away and it looked back to normal. I then had sex with my fiance and i noticed that it came back. About two weeks ago i posted a question to this forum and a dermatologist told me it was a lichenoid eruption caused by friction and suggested i use 1% hydrocortisone for a week followed up with moisturizer. It helped but not completely. So earlier this week i went to my dermatologist and he said it was molluscum contagiosum and scraped it off. I just want another opinion on the subject because ive had fricton from masturbation before and it never lasted this long. My fiance and i are concerned because we had sex in the last two months and from what i hear this is very contagious. Ive only had sex with her in the last 8 years and i have no clue where this could have come from. Is this definitely molluscum contagiosum? If it is that wouldnt i have more of them on me because of how contagious they are? What about my fiance? She doesnt appear to have any signs or symptoms of anything on her.

Brief Answer:
I disagree with previous diagnosis; this looks like a wart to me

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have also seen the Images.
In these Images, I can see a single, elevated, pinkish lesion on the undersurface of prepuce.

It must have been really confusing for you to have differing diagnoses (i.e lichenoid eruption and molluscum) from different doctors.

Well, I doubt both these previous diagnoses and even after going through your previous queries and discussions with doctors I am not convinced about these diagnoses.

I have never seen such a localized irritation and that too lasting for so long just from masturbation. It is definitely more than a simple irritation.

I have a separate opinion on this and this looks more like a "Genital Wart" to me. Though I am not confirming it as yet, but almost!

I would request you to upload a few more photos. Make sure they are as sharp as possible and focused at the site of lesion. I want to be 100% sure.

Well when i went to the dermatologist on 12/9 he diagnosed it as molloscum contagiosum and removed it by scraping it off. It left a little tiny pink spot that is healing. There was no blood at any time during the removal and afterwards. Ill upload a picture of it now. If it was a wart is it possible it wouldnt have bled if it was removed? How sure are you of this? How would i get genital warts out of no where when my fiance and i havent been wth anyone else? i

Brief Answer:
Wart is a likely possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I am pity sure of my diagnosis but I would have preferred more photos to be certain.

Warts are epidermal and may not bleed. Genital warts is an STD and are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV).

Regarding the possibility of how could a wart occur if neither of you have never been involved with anyone else. In that case even a molluscum should not occur!

HPV may remain clinically silent for months and even years before presenting as warts.

It is possible that a person who do not have any visible warts may still pass on the virus to others through sexual contact.

Thanks for the reply doc. The lesion has changed its appearance a lot in the last couple weeks. Is that common in genital warts?

Brief Answer:
Warts may gradually increase in size and more may appear

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I noted that you were applying topical steroids which is absolutely contraindicated in warts. Steroids may make warts grow.
A wart may increase in size gradually and more may appear over time.

Well when i was applying the steroids(westcort, 1% hydrocortisone) it was taking the redness out of the lesion, making it more skin colored and making it smaller. It never got bigger. It only came back the following day because of having oral sex with my fiance. The lesion felt like a patch of dry, smooth skin and was flaky also. It never developed a cauliflower like feel or look to it. I feel like if this was definitely a wart my dermatologist would have made that diagnosis when i saw him 3 days ago, right? Also, if it was a wart would it have changed appearance like that?

Brief Answer:
Topical steroids cause vasoconstriction

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Topical steroids cause vasoconstriction and probably that made it appear more skin colored.
Genital warts may not always be cauliflower like, specially if they are recent and early. Later on they may become cauliflower in morphology.
I agree, your dermatologist should have kept this possibility. May be you can ask him about this possibility.
