increase in the BP within a system of veins coming from the stomach, intestine, spleen, and pancreas merge into the portal vein. It is commonly due to liver cirrhosis which results from liver injury caused by hepatitis, alcohol abuse, or other causes of liver damage. It can cause ascites, edema, bleeding from stomach, coma, etc.
