What Causes Postural Hypotension?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Nov 2016
Question: I frequently get dizzy upon standing, to the point I need to hold onto something, and usually feel blood rush to my legs and arms as well. This is in the last couple of months. I had hip replacement surgery 8/3 tho don't see how that relates. I do tend to stand up faster than most people probably, but I always have. I'm 77 yr old female. Have hypertension and take meds for that.I tried to pay thru paypal but something went awry and they sent the payment to hong kong. I'm not kidding. So, I don't know how to re-subumit now to pay another way so it doesn't mess up again.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to postural hypotension

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Weakness and giddiness on standing is due to following causes.
1.Postural hypotension -When there is sudden change in posture your BP is falling suddenly. It can cause hypotension. You need to check your BP in lying and standing position. If there is difference then you need to check with your physician about your BP medications.
2.Other cause can be cervical spondylitis. For this you need to get your neck x rays. If there is any cervical spine abnormality then you need to wear a soft cervical collar and take physiotherapy.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
Thanks
