Enalapril can cause cough in about 10 percent patients taking it
Detailed Answer:
Hi Freyi,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Enalapril is known to cause symptoms of cough in around 10 percent patients taking it. The enalapril-induced cough is insidious, dry, persistent, benign, and reversible on discontinuation of therapy. This side effect is more commonly seen in women who take it. If it is indeed due to enalapril, the cough should resolve within 2 weeks of discontinuation of enalapril therapy. This has been proven by available medical review literature. Though some people require discontinuation of medication, most patients continue taking enalapril.
However, please discuss your cough with your doctor to rule out any other acute medical condition in the respiratory tract.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
