What Causes Presence Of WBC And RBC In Urine?
Question: I had an urine sample taken for my clearance for hip replacement. WBC was abnormal 11-30. RBC abnormal v3-10. Trace of blood. My blood tests came back fine. Dr put me on antibiotics. Would something like this keep me from getting hip replacement? My Dr gave me clearance, but its really up to surgical dr

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been posted for surgery of Joint Replacement and your routine urine test revealed presence of WBC and RBC in urine suggesting mild UTI..
This is normal to have mild UTI in females at this age and can be overcomed by taking appropriate antibiotics for q aweek,
Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.
Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefiexime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.
Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.
Ensure to drink more water.To keep your urine dilute.
After taking an antibiotics for a week Operating Surgeon mostly will not hesitate to go ahead with surgery .

Thank you. My urine culture was normal. My Dr prescribed nitrofurantoin twice daily. I know you mentioned other meds too, but by just taking this one, will it help? My hip replacement is scheduled for August 5th Thanks again
