What Causes Pressure In Head, Eyes, Bridge Of Nose And Swelling Around Eyes?
Symptoms: pressure headache especially around eyes and bridge of nose. swelling under and around eyes. difficult time breathing especially left side. recurrent sinus infections . Also my ent visually can see scar tissue. Would like to know what this report is saying and if it sounds like I will be having sinus surgery again.
The Frontal sinuses are mildly hypoplastic. There has been prior ethmoidectomy. Mild less than 5mm of inferior mucosal thickening is seen in the posterior left ethmoid cells. The Sphenoid sinuses are well aerated. Maxillary astronomies have been performed. There are smooth focal mucosal thickening along the medial margin of the right maxillary sinus measuring 0.7 cm. There is mild mucosal thickening in the left maxillary antrostomy measuring 0.3 cm. There is deviation of the nasal septum to the left. Nasal turbinate hypertrophy is seen. The right middle turbinate protrudes into the posterior and medial margin of the right antrostomy site. The antrostomy sites are patent. The maxilla and orbits are normal. The mastoid air cells and skull are normal.
There is low attenuation region in the right sphenoid bone. This is located anterior to the carotid canal. This does not communicate with the adjacent sinus and may represent a hypo plastic residual sinus or accessory sinus.
1. Rhinitis is identified
2. There is deviation of the septum
3. Mild sinus inflammatory disease is seen.
4. There is a low- attenuation region in the right sphenoid bone and this may represent an accessory sphenoid sinus.
You may need correction of deviated nasal septum(septoplasty).
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Your findings suggests changes of chronic sinusitis.
Changes are minor and I don't think you need repeat sinus surgery.
Let me explain CT scan findings first,
Frontal sinus (located in frontal bone, fore head region)is mildly hypoplastic(not well developed). It is a normal anatomical variation and found in many persons.
There is mild mucosal thickening in posterior ethmoid sinus. It is sequel of chronic sinusitis.
There are mild mucosal thickening in both maxillary sinus(present in maxillary bone over cheek area). It is good that opening of maxillary bones are open.Mucosal thickening may be due to chronic persistent inflammation.
Sphenoid sinus(present deep behind nose) is normal.
Turbinates are hypertrophied,it is commonly found in chronic sinusitis.
There is deviation of nasal septum(DNS) to the left. This condition may need correction(operation is called as septoplasty).DNS may contribute to sinusitis.
There is a low attenuation region in the right sphenoid bone and this may represent an accessory sphenoid sinus. It is also a anatomical variation. It is not a matter of concern.
Rest of the findings like mastoid air cells and skull are normal.
Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
