What Causes Pressure In The Center Of My Chest While Running On The Treadmill?

Question: Because of my anxiety lately, I've decided to do a bit more exercise.
I've noticed the past two days, when I've run on the treadmill, I reach about 13minutes into my run, where I get to approx 165bpm and I feel bit of pressure in the centre of my chest. I slow down the pace on the treadmill to a walk and the pressure goes away.
Is this a sign of angina?
Today is the third day I've been on the treadmill for a run, so could it be that I'm just new to running again?

Brief Answer:
Can be anginal pain
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes, it can anginal pain. Sometimes, one may heaviness even otherwise without it being angina. Considering your age, probability of it being angina is less, but we can't be cent percent sure about it unless we get stress test done. So you should go treadmill test where they ll attach ecg while doing exercise. Till it is confirmed, you should avoid very heavy activities and should only do mild to moderate exercises.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX Makode
I'll go see my GP tomorrow to see if I can arrange a stress test.
So no running on the treadmill? Can I walk on the treadmill do you think?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you may walk
Detailed Answer:
Yes, you may walk ojn treadmill, but avoid running till treadmill test. Likely stress test will be negative, but we should rule out disease. All the best.

My doctors appointment is booked in for tomorrow - but I've been feeling numbness and tingling in my left hand and just on my forearm today.
Do you think this is related somehow to heart issues/blood circulation?
I thought this could have been related to my periods as it started around the same time.
Is this something serious that I should go to the hospital asap to check?
The one thing I noticed was that I have just recently started taking B complete vitamin, and I read that B6 can cause numbness.. so yesterday I decided to skip taking the vitamin and felt less numbness in the hand.
Maybe anxiety related?

Brief Answer:
Likely an anxiety
Detailed Answer:
Its likely related to anxiety. It does not appear to be a worrisome matter.
Do you have any neck pain or this tingling numbness increases on next of neck movements, or history of neck trauma, just to rule out cervical spine problem as a cause for it.
Regarding B6, it can cause these symptoms but in high doses and on toxicity, and not expected at these small doses so unlikely to be related to it.
Overall, doesn't look like a worrisome matter.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Makode
No neck pain or any issues with the neck at all.
I was just worried because you read about chest pain, and left arm numbness being related to a stroke or a heart attack.
My kids cause me a lot of stress - my fear is that I won't be able to tell the difference between having a stroke or heart attack.. or if it's just anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Settings are different
Detailed Answer:
Just tingling, numbness doesn't mean any stroke or heart attack. Also, it will not be continues.
In case of heart attack, one should have chest pain, heaviness and radiation to left arm. Patient will have notorious symptoms and feeling of very uneasiness, impending doom. So not just tingling numbness.
Similarly for stroke, it would be of sudden onset and should not be continually present. So presentation of these attacks will be entirely different. so unlikely to be attack.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Makode
My GP checked my heart, and pulse with a stethoscope, and my blood pressure was 110/80, so everything checked out to be normal :) She said that I should start slow on the treadmill and work my way up to the 6.8 speed instead of running at that pace.. being new to running again, it could be the cause of the chest pressure and that from assessing me, that I didn't really need a stress test unless the chest pain happens again I guess. And if I was having a stroke it would be like an elephant sitting on my chest with the pain radiating down my arm (which you mentioned).
She sent me for a cholesterol test - I've attached. Could you let me know if you see anything unusual or does everything look good?

Brief Answer:
Lipid profile is fine
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your lipid profile is fine. As I mentioned, probability of any heart disease is less, but it's better to rule it out because of symptoms. Its ok to go with the way she has suggested. So you may try running at slower pace and gradually increasing it, and if symptoms reappeared then go for test.
