What Causes Profuse Sweating And Dizziness?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: Yesterday I began extremely hot, then began to sweat. I then became very dizzy. I awoke on the floor but do not recall passing out. I had a small laceration on my forehead and a bruise on the top of my head from impacting a bookcase. I was sitting down eating at the time. Last year, I was on a flight across country when a similar incident occurred. I've had about three similar incidences but not to the degree of yesterday's. No chest pain, no nausea and no numbness or pain in any extremities. I have high blood pressure and I take medication for it

Brief Answer:
Syncope most likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query,

Most likely you are having episodes of syncope. The medical term for fainting is syncope. Syncope is a sudden loss of consciousness, usually temporary and typically caused by a lack of oxygen in the brain. The brain oxygen deprivation has many possible causes, including hypotension (sudden drop of blood pressure from the baseline range).

Tests advised are--

Carotid ultrasonography- to see any carotid artery disease as a cause of syncope, as it supplies blood to the brain.

Holter monitoring - This is a portable ECG device that can record the heart rhythms during daily activities over an extended period of 24 hours. Any arrhythmia can be ruled out.

The tilt table test is performed clinically by your doctor, to rule out orthostatic syncope secondary to autonomic dysfunction.

MRI brain should be done to rule out any central nervous system involvement.

To treat the condition, exact cause has to be diagnosed first, hence all these tests are important to be carried out at the earliest.

Feel free to ask further.
Thanks and regards.

Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
As explained earlier if blood supply to brain is compromised there will be lack of oxygen as blood carries oxygen to brain.
It's not related to sitting or standing. However there are many types of syncope above mentioned tests should be done to find out the exact cause of syncope in your case.

Thanks
