The following are the causes of subacute and chronic diarrhoea which last more than 20 days:
Giardiasis
Tropical sprue
Celiac disease
Inflammatory bowel disease
Irritable bowel syndrome diarrhoea predominant
Chronic pancreatitis
Blind loop syndrome
Worm infestations.
The next step in evaluation is stool routine, microscopy and fecal fat count. This will be followed by imaging studies and colonscopy.

can this be a sign of any STDs or HIV?

Chronic diarrhoea is an AIDS defining illness and it occurs in advanced stage of HIV. Giardiasis, shigella dysentery is known to occur as a result of unprotected rimming during coitus. Do you have a history of unsafe sexual exposure and or rimming?
If you are very anxious, you can have yourself tested for HIV elisa and the stool examination.
