What Causes Prominent Visible Indentation In Skull?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: I have an indentation in my skull that runs from slightly back from the top to the top of my forehead which I noticed about 3 months ago. It has been getting longer over the past month and the depth seems to vary a bit. The indentation is mostly on the right side. If mine were the skull of someone from the Middle Ages, I would say someone had attempted to brain me with an axe. What is this?

Hello, Sir

I can certainly understand your concerns.

I can guide you better if you can upload images of the indentation.

This can help me to formulate an accurate hypothesis and guide you accordingly.

Thank you.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX Heijebu,

Thank you for your response. I can't really take a picture of it unless I shave my head, which I am not going to do. It is about 5 inches long, is slightly right of center. The ridge is higher on the right, about 1/4-1/2 an inch at the deepest. The part on the forehead is in line with the beginning of my right eyebrow. The ridge is hard and there is not pain associated with it.

Brief Answer:
Get a CT scan to rule out organic brain pathology

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concern.

I apologize for the delayed response owing to my hectic work schedule.

The indentation on the skull can be produced by any intracranial pathology.

Since the onset of indentation is sudden, it is very important to rule out organic brain pathology.

For this, I advise you to get a CT scan of the head.

Further management is based on the test results.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
