What Causes Proteinuria?
Question: After a routine checkup my Doctor wants me to submit a urine sample to the lab. There was nothing to suggest anything out of the ordinary. It was simply routine, however I am reluctant to do so.
I have noticed that recently my urine is very yellow and sometimes there are bubbles in it (in the toilet). It hasn't been that way for long and I was waiting for it to be more "normal" before I submitted a urine sample.
What could be causing the yellow and/or bubbles? I have started drinking more coffee recently and I wonder if that could cause the change. I was also put on a Statin drug by my Cardiologist.
Also, should I get the urine sample first thing after I get up?

Brief Answer:
Bubbles could mean there is protein leaking in urine!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these bubbles that you have reported in your urine. Bubbles often suggests the presence of proteins in urine. If this persists, then there is need for a urine test. This is certainly the reason why your doctor is requesting for one. Early morning urine samples are ideal for testing purposes.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Yes, it is not good to have protein in urine!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Protein in urine is not normal but not all protein in urine signals a disease. I will like that the exact amount and type of protein be identified, if any, for further guidance.
