Question: I have a rubber band like feeling in lower abdomen around hip area that pulsates and feels like a shock . I can't pinpoint exactly when it is the worst I feel like it is a stretched muscle or ligament. I'm hoping that's what it is and rest and ice will help.

Brief Answer:
Hernia needs to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
The rubber band like feeling that pulsates and feels like a shock in the lower abdomen, like stretched muscle or ligament can be due to the following reasons:
If this is in inguinal area and if there is bulge that can be palpated on coughing, this may be a developing hernia.
Please check the following:
Put the flat of palm on the affected area and cough hard. Do you feel any bulge that comes out transiently? Does it increase the feeling of pulsation or shock? Or does the pain increase?
If there is bulge then the most probable diagnosis is developing hernia as mentioned above and the stretched nerve can cause typical feeling like a shock.

Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Was there any activity or accident that caused this problem?
Where exactly is this problem? Right or left?
Any other information that you would like to provide?

PLease continue Aleve.
Take rest.
Awaiting for your feedback.

There wasn't any accident or specific incident that brought it on. I noticed it several months ago on my left side more towards my back when I would get into my husbands truck on the passenger side. As I slid in to get settled I would get that feeling of a rubber band snapping that would make me cry out for just an instant. Once I rearranged my butt to sit more in the middle of the seat in a straight posture, I did not feel anything at all. This happened most times I got into the passenger seat. Now for 2 days it seems to have moved towards my abdomen but is on the same side of my body in the same area vertically and is throbbing and pulsing more frequently and noticed it started at my job where I sit in front of a computer for hours at a time. I am in the truck right now on a trip to my hometown. As long as I sit still and don't use any muscles I don't feel sorts of pain or throbbing. I will try the cough with my hand flat on the area to see if I feel anything. Thank you and feel free to comment again if you have any other thoughts. Sincerely, XXXX

Brief Answer:
Evaluation as explained helps in proper diagnosis and management

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for an elucidate feedback.
My opinion still is the same.
Another possibility of some sort of a muscle spasm or sort of fibromyalgia can be considered .
And the best way to get a proper diagnosis would be a clinical evaluation, examination by a Doctor, preferably a General Surgeon and supportive investigations like high resolution Ultrasound/MRI/CT scan.
A proper diagnosis helps for proper management.
